An inquisitive and talkative Danish actor is not even ashamed to answer his own questions. The man, who is also the ambassador of L’Oréal Paris, one of whose representatives he was for several years, confesses and speaks, in particular, about his devotion and memories of Cannes.

The central actor of the saga “Iron Throne” cut his teeth in the theater and became famous to Danish audiences in 1994 in a thriller Night watchman. Later, director Ridley Scott showed great potential in it and chose it in 2001 to star in a film about the war. The Fall of the Black Falconthen for the epic Kingdom of Heaven. Madame Figaro.- What is the reason for your arrival in Cannes?
Mykola Koster-Waldau.- This year, L’Oréal Paris celebrates 25 years of partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. On the occasion of this anniversary, the beauty brand invited its representatives, including me. I’ve been working with them for several years, so I’m here!

What does the Lights on Women Award mean to you? How can he move things forward?
For the second season, L’Oréal is awarding this prize, which awards the director of short films with promising talent. I think this is a very good idea. Even today, there are far more male directors than women. In recent years, we have seen more and more women making films. Not only small productions, but also important films. This increases the diversity and, above all, the difference of views; but there is still a long way to go. This award is a great way to highlight new female talents. There are so many great women directors, we want to be able to learn more. And if they already exist, we don’t see them enough! In the future, the issue of gender equality will no longer be a subject, but while it is still a matter of concern, we must continue. This is a huge problem in cinema, but it goes beyond, it is a global problem.

What are your future projects?
It’s funny that we’re talking about women directors, because I’m currently shooting a mini-series for Apple The last thing he told me, Laura Dave and Josh Singer. It is produced by Hello Sunshine, a company founded by Reese Witherspoon, which wants to change the way women are portrayed in the media. Maybe the series will be released next year, but I still don’t know the exact date! One way or another, it was a wonderful experience.

It would be best for me to be on stage when the winner is announced

What are your tips for comfort on the red carpet?
Climbing the stairs at the Cannes Film Festival is a strange experience of getting out of your own body. But if I had one short record, it would be natural. Just be yourself!

What is your best memory of Cannes?
Twenty years ago I was in the harbor, on a boat, and a speedboat came, a red boat. In front of the boat, standing in swimming trunks, Jean-Claude Van Damme performed martial arts figures, shouting something. I will never forget it, it was a very good moment!

What is the best night?
I remember many years ago, an evening in honor of a movie, The Blues Brothers, where the real Blues Brothers played. That was twenty-five years ago, it was very funny.

The most unpleasant moment?
Last year, when Spike Lee announced the winner at the beginning of the ceremony, thus spoiling the whole mood, it was quite sad, and of course funny. But also annoying.

What is the best place?
For me, it would be to be on stage when the winner is announced.
