football Dover is waiting for a striker to defend his ambitions

In Group B, now devoid of Regional 1-placed stuffed animal Willer-Ulgate, there is no need to lose sight of making JS Dover one of the main favorites for the title. “Growing up is what we want to do,” admits Eric Fuda. We are not going to hide, otherwise we would lack ambition. »

Departures raise questions…

Ambition, however, goes hand in hand with caution for the former Regional 1 resident. Dover lost four key players during the offseason, including their captain Mustafa Sek (Willer-Ulgat). “He was a bit like the soul of the team,” Eric Fuda describes. It was an almost indispensable element. “Following his departure, which was unfortunately accompanied by a serious knee injury, Matteo Marivel (Carpiquet), Arthur Marco and Luc Mwe Zeng were added and returned to Gabon. “Did we fill the holes correctly? asks Eric Fuda.

… and arrivals are reassuring

At first glance, the answer is yes. Matteo Garde (ASPTT Caen), Lucas Konann (ASPTT Caen), Artur David (Bretteville-sur-Odon), Joachim Baggi (Courseulles), Gaben Guérin (Flers) and Thomas Rattier (Bretteville-sur-Odon) arrived. Matteo Garde and Lucas Konnan are star recruits in terms of their experience in Regional 1. “We contacted Matteo early on, he told us about Lucas,” explains Eric Fuda. I didn’t think he would go. It happened quickly. We hope they will bring their experience. »

Looking for a deep striker

Despite a rather disappointing fifth-place finish last season, blamed on the ‘half-fig-half-hail’ and winter pit, Dover feels they are heading into the new season with “less confidence than last year”. Eric Fuda wonders aloud. “We will see how our defense reacts and how Matteo (Garde) adapts to the center. We also need to see if our offensive sector is still working well…”

Ahead, Eric Fuda is still hoping for reinforcements. “It is important. “Since Herman Lemaitre’s departure during last year’s season, the centre-forward position rests solely on the (solid) shoulders of Selim Batbut. “He scored 17 goals last season and we are counting on him. But when he was not there, it was very difficult to score. You have to anticipate it. Only the number 9 is not easy to find. “All players ask for money, and a lot of money. »

“The championship will be much more uniform”

Dover, meanwhile, can still rely on a solid attacking argument, especially with Yacine Azdad, who scored 15 goals last year, remaining. But Douvrais won’t be the only one showing some pretensions on the starting line. “The championship will be much more uniform than last season,” Eric Fuda expects. La Ferté Macé and Lisieux finished with a bang; they will be there. Erouville have retained many good players and recruited well like Anthony Butamin. Dives and Mondeville will play spoilsport depending on the descents, PTT will be strong, L’Aigle is a very good team…

I think six or seven teams will try to fight for promotion. And there may be a surprise.

Increased in quantity and probably in quality, Douvres knows he is eagerly awaited. For this group, who know each other well, this could be the best year yet to achieve the goal.
