Space for Sale makes you a planetary real estate developer who gets aliens drunk

Aliens, like humans, need places to live, and in the management simulator Space for Sale, you have the chance to turn an inexpensive solar system into high-end real estate. However, many obstacles stand in your way, not the least of which are the creatures that inhabit your solar system and the eccentric demands of your alien clientele.

THQ Nordic revealed the sold-out Mirage Game Studio developer space with a trailer during the 2022 Games Showcase that gives a glimpse of how the top-down game works. You play as an astronaut builder of various aliens, a job that requires you to create plots and satisfy their potentially strange demands. As shown in the trailer, your main goal is to try to sell plots to aliens and earn space money, but the game is not limited to this element.

Now playing: Space for Sale – Official Gameplay Trailer

THQ also gave GameSpot a first look at the game that sheds light on some of its other elements. Space for Sale also features sandbox elements, so you won’t just be building houses in your solar system, you’ll be exploring, collecting resources, and analyzing what you find as you travel through your planets. Earning money gives you the opportunity to upgrade your own base to get more opportunities to improve your ability to sell goods.

According to Mirage, the planets are procedurally generated and span many different environments – we’ve seen a sandy desert world as well as a world filled with lava. The planets you will explore also include a bunch of strange creatures that will add a wrinkle and play an important role in the gameplay. Some may avoid you, while others will be aggressive, and some may be beneficial to your development if you know how to outsmart them.

In one example, Mirage showed us a crab-like creature with a back covered in rocks — minerals that come in handy if you can mine them. But the Nerve Crab still ran away from the player’s astronaut, making it difficult to retrieve these materials. To solve the problem, the astronaut gave the crab an overripe fermented fruit. The result: a drunken space crab that stumbled merrily for a moment before finally passing out. When the crab was incapacitated, the player could mine minerals from its back and use them to achieve their goals. Mirage says these creatures are the stars of the show at Space for Sale, and they seem just as potentially strange and interesting as your alien customers.

You will also find that your solar system has its own problems. There’s a reason you were able to catch him cheap: he’s infected with a strange green mold called space rot, which you’ll need to find ways to counter.

Space for Sale is coming to PC, although there is no release date yet. THQ Nordic also showed off other new, unannounced games during the demo, including a reboot of the 1992 survival horror classic Alone in the Dark, a racing game called Wreckreation that looks like a spiritual successor to Burnout Paradise, and Tempest Rising, an homage to the 1990s. era of real-time strategy games.
